I never had the privilege to meet Robert, but I wish I could have. I grew up watching the Static Shock cartoon, and then I just found the milestone comics. They are the best comics in the world, nothing else comes close. I just wanted to pay tribute to one of the best comic writers of our time, may he rest in peace.

Static, and the characters in that book, gave me superheroes I could relate to. In a very real sense they made me feel like I could be a superhero too. They were there when I needed them, and for plenty of other people too.

Thank you, Mr. Washington. I'm sorry we weren't there for you when you needed us. I wish I'd learned to think about the people behind my heroes sooner in life.

I wish Robert could know how many people have come together to honor his memory and celebrate his life. And how he moved his fans, friends and peers to help other comic creators in need by supporting the Hero Initiative in his name.

My deep condolences to Robert's family, from whom he was separated for so long. I don't know about your personal struggles, but hope Robert's memorial offers you an opportunity for resolution, healing and peace.

Know that for each fan, friend or comics industry colleague attending Robert's memorial there are many more who are with you in spirit. Although we cannot join you in person, we also honor Robert and will hold memories of him in our hearts.

Unfortunately, I only had the opportunity to meet Bob once (and liked him very much), but of course, I'd known him for years through his writing. I'm grateful to have had the chance to tell him how much I enjoyed his work, and I wish there could have been opportunities for more, both personally and professionally.

A very talented man who left us far too soon, but his memory and his work will live on.

In the dim memories of a fellow Roeperian, we knew each other, but slightly. You were older, we didn't have the same friends, or the same interests. But because Roeper was Roeper, we knew each other by name, to speak to when we passed. I can only hope whatever adventures you then hoped your life held for you aren't fully over.

May Robert Lee Washington III rest in peace. He was a great talent who deserved more recognition and a better life than what he faced. May his life cause us to be more compassionate to each other. I thank the Hero Initiative for helping make Robert's life better. May his memory be for a blessing.
